What is the Suzuki Method?
The Suzuki Method of music instruction has one guiding principle... anyone can play an instrument! The emphasis, above all, is to have fun and to be taught with love, respect, humor, and excellence! When these qualities are present, children's inherent talents and abilities will develop.
The method teaches musical ability through the mother tongue method, which is how children learn their native language, by repetition and constant encouragement from their parents. By surrounding their environment with beautiful music, a positive attitude, and practice sessions which work one step at a time (with many repetitions in between), children become fluent in the language of music. Children, therefore, can start an instrument very young since they learn by ear rather than by note reading. Just as children learn to speak before they learn to read, Suzuki students learn to play music before they learn to read music. Later, when more of their abilities are developed, they will also learn to read music.
