Who was Shinichi Suzuki?

Shinichi Suzuki was born in 1899 in Japan to a violin maker. In his teens, he decided to teach himself to play the instrument. By the 1920's he had traveled to Germany to study with the great masters.

Dr. Suzuki was a very generous and loving man. Witnessing the devastating effects that World War II had on the children of Japan, he desperately wanted to give something to help them heal and grow. He gave them music. He felt that music could be a tool to build character, self-esteem and the qualities of respect and kindness toward self and others. During the 60's and 70's, the Suzuki method was transferred to other instruments such as piano, flute, harp, cello, viola, bass, and guitar. Today the method brings all of this to children worldwide.
